Stay hungry. Stay foolish.

正在寫一年回顧時，心散地瀏覽網頁，讀到貴公子轉載的一段 Steve Jobs 在 Stanford 本年度畢業典禮上的演說，忍不住要開個 blog 記錄下來。(欲聽 Jobs 真人發聲全文，可按此處。)

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating.

好多時都有人會問或質疑：「為甚麼設計人硬係要用 Mac？貪佢靚？有型有款夠中產？Mac 機又貴，兼容性又低，啲 game 又出得慢！都唔知有乜咁好！係~！係比較靚仔囉！咁又如何？」其實，時至今日，可能的話，學子覺得左擁 Mac 右抱 PC，一享「齊機之福」當然最理想 (PC 一直都化算至極，雖然較醜，但用塊靚布擒住佢，保持散熱，應該都 OK。Mac 價格近年都已經十分 affordable 吧。)。不過，說實話，就算單用 PC 做設計都無傷大雅，特別是一些專業範疇，如建築，那些軟件確實以 PC 平台為主流，要二揀一，PC 優勢佔盡，有必需性。齋以價錢計，唔講美觀、態度，對學生哥、一些小型或業務與設計無甚關係的公司而言，Mac 真的比較遙遠。但是，但是，(即使有說 Steve Jobs 是一個不折不扣的推銷佬) Steve Jobs 以 art、美學、理想等價值觀和態度作 brand building 和推銷的技倆，確是令世界創作群體和西方中產階層 buy 晒佢！「太實用，太實際」反而令人生厭，俗不可耐，何況，Windows 真的很三四流貨色。試問將 Helvetica 抄襲過來變成 Arial 的 Bill Gates，能說出這樣動聽而富說服力的話來嗎？對首富們來說，「Great Typography」與「Profit」，很難連於一線吧？！

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do.

好的環境永遠是優質出品的其一保証，否則遠古孟母駛鬼三遷咩！生活環境、實質工作環境和虛擬工作環境，直接影響了創作人的創作原料來源。正所謂「Rubbish in, rubbish out.」何謂「美」？睇多啲靚嘢，品嘗多啲好嘢，自自然然感受得到。只要用本能去感受，不用人云亦云。

Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.

「You've got to find what you love.」活在「理想沙漠」(唔係理想酒店！) ，這實在頗天方夜譚，特別當很多同行已「但求有糧出，已心足」或「以客為尊，客高興即係我高興」時。不過，始終覺得「keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.」，係較 postive 的態度，雖然身處的不是「美」國，是中國。

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

自細被教以「模範生」為榜樣，常聽見「學吓隔離阿 B 女啦！人哋讀書幾叻呀！」「你畫緊乜嘢呀？都唔似嘅？」「邊有人頭髮係綠色㗎！」「識唔識畫叮噹啫？唔識？！唔係嘛？」「啲嘢未見過嘅~？得唔得㗎？出面街嗰啲唔係咁㗎喎！... ... research？唔夠嘅！都係攞啲 reference 參考吓好喎！」「外國啲 design 都唔係咁嘅~？」「唔『正常』啲，『大眾化』啲，啲人唔明㗎！」... ... ... ... 可能，世界上，冇人比我們有更多「活在別人思想下」的經驗。革命，也分「革命」同「反革命」，咁有冇「真真革命」同「反反革命」呢？
