Thanks for this, it's brilliant that you remember the ancient 地動儀 actually used toads to help indicate earthquakes!
I would prefer the line to be left in though, as I wouldn't be quite able to immediately link the graphic with the "toad migration" story otherwise.. (Or perhaps I'm just slow?)
哈哈，看來大家的職業病比我還嚴重 (講笑)。同意大家的刪減結尾句或以一圖過說明的改善建議，我相信再好的設計品都有進步空間的 (更何況小小拙作)。
如果蟾蜍有政府的話，它一定比我們的文明和愛民。擁有差不多有二千年歷史的地動儀 (喻政府和傳媒)，泱泱大國卻封閉兼後知後覺到這樣，天災過後證明比沒有地動儀的蟾蜍也不如。有預知能力有個屁用！爛透的通報機制和官僚才是真兇！
(結尾句的作用在於易明和加強揶揄有關單位。如省去，大多只說明了「中國通報機制」比蟾蜍爛 (會較 subtle 和簡潔)。敝 blog 老少咸宜，都係淺白啲好。)
如果樓主認為這次只是單純是國內對預報機制的後知後覺，香港自己都應該小心下。
節錄自灣仔區議員鄭琴淵的文章：「通過這次天災，本港亦應檢討防震抗災措施。香港雖非處於活躍地震帶，根據香港天文台消息，自1979年建立地震監測網以來，共錄得54次有感地震，在這次四川大地震中，錄得30多宗市民報告，況且，自然界的變化往往是反覆無常的，誰也不能保證此地今後永遠不會發生強震或其他嚴重災害。本港現存有大量舊式唐樓，個別舊樓更有年久失修問題。因此，強烈要求政府能迅速採取措施，加固香港各樓宇以達到防震抗災的效果。」
對，就算地震可能性較少，都好應該預防巨型風災。

I don't think anybody is doubting that earthquakes are difficult to predict, and in fact I myself have read the toad migration story from ESWN - about how bogus it is to base predictions based on toad migration - before I left my earlier comment on here (and that's why I commented that I wouldn't have made the immediate connection between this cartoon and the story if not for the tagline).
There is evidence however of local officials hiding facts from central government (e.g. estimating that the number of children casualties to be under 50 when they number in the hundreds), and there is an inquiry now conducted by the central government into the construction of schools in the area to see if they were built per specification and whether there has been any corruption going on.
I do hope that this disaster brings the much-needed overhaul of local governance, otherwise people would be no better off than toads in the future should natural disasters strike again (which we all need to brace ourselves for as climiate change became reality).

正正是重點不在科學上地震預測的準確性，所以不應該老是拿這點出來講，模糊了反思的焦點。
